Chigozie started out as an Investment banker with Lagos based firm, Meristem Group where he traded equity, managed mutual funds and discretionary portfolios of high net worth individuals and companies. During his time there he navigated the highs and the lows of the Lagos bourse, making significant impact restructuring and improving client portfolios.
In search of depth and learning, he joined the Lagos office of the global consultancy, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 2010 where he focused on the Energy Industry. There, he became proficient at the audit reviews of financial statements of companies in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry. Although the operations of Royal Dutch Shell (RDS) were his main focus, he was also on the audit teams of Exxon, Schlumberger, Chevron, Oando, Mobil Oil, and General Electric During his review of Shell’s operations, he got involved in the intricacies of SPDC/NNPC Joint Venture arrangements, Shell’s crude oil reserve reporting, Asset retirement obligations and JV reconciliations.
The desire for a more rounded experience took him to the other side of finance involving financial statement due diligence with a private business to business lender- Financial Derivatives Company in 2012. Here he was part of the due diligence success team that structured the multi-million dollar acquisition of Portland Paints Plc by UAC Nigeria in 2014. He also successfully restructured multi-million dollar corporate debts for several publicly quoted FMCGs. He developed expertise in due diligence reporting for investments in multi-million naira debt papers and prepared company investment valuation reports for the FDC dollar-mutual fund. Sitting with and reporting to Nigeria’s foremost economist – Bismarck Rewane on a daily basis, he also developed a good understanding of how global economies (monetary and fiscal policies) interplay.
Chigozie’s fascination with strategic corporate oversight took him to risk management consulting with a private consultancy based in Lagos- Audit, Advisory, Assurance and Assessment Services (A4S) where he was responsible for driving the risk management business development efforts including its strategic outlook development. He discussed with various companies on their need for the implementation of a robust enterprise risk management framework and was responsible for the delivery of ISO training modules including ISO 31000 (Certified Risk Manager) and ISO 27001(Information System Security).
Chigozie is currently studying for a Certification in Risk Management Assurance as he leads the risk management practice of The Coca-Cola Company’s new Nigerian affiliate- CHI Limited.
Chigozie earned his accounting and audit skills at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and is a Chartered Accountant with the Nigerian accounting body. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Lagos State University, is an ISO 31000 Certified Risk Manager and an Energy Risk Professional.
Chigozie is an avid reader of business literature, loves watching Soccer and is a Chess enthusiast.
