Dmitri Galiouline
Dmitri started his career in 2006 with a Swiss investment bank based in Geneva. He was involved in the marketing of financial products to international counterparties with the goal of developing a portfolio of Russian-speaking clients for the bank.
Dmitri then joined a small and dynamic Geneva–based oil trading structure (Saicat SA.)
At that time it was a very small team of traders exporting oil products out of Kazakhstan and Russia and Dmitri was handling both logistics and financial management for a couple of years prior to becoming a physical and derivatives trader specialized in crude oil, fuel oil and feedstock.
Dmitri was mainly involved in business development, training of new staff, sourcing of new suppliers of oil inside Russia and other former Soviet countries. He successfully negotiated direct long-term contracts with Salavat (one of the largest Gazprom refineries in Russia).
Dmitri quickly became the “derivatives specialist” of the company, which also led him to creating from scratch two risk management departments (one for the office in Geneva and later in 2011 another one for the office in Almaty).
Thus, from a small 3 people office and a few deals per month activity to an international 150+ employees and several USD billion turnover structure, Dmitri brilliantly worked his way up from logistical operation to oil trading and head of risk management.
Such experience allowed him to develop an entrepreneurial mind which led him to set-up his own business project in Switzerland and Russia: Dmitri created a joint-venture between a Swiss and a Saint-Petersburg based-trading company whose activity was to export domestic volumes of fuel oil while benefiting from the domestic and export prices arbitrage.
In search of new trading and business challenges, Dmitri then embarked upon exploring new geographical opportunities in West African countries such as Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Burkina Faso, with a focus on developing gold producing open-pit mines and regular physical trading of gold.
Dmitri graduated from ENSR and studied economics at HEC Lausanne. He has also followed several advanced courses on trading and logistics in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Almaty.
Dmitri is a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals GARP and successfully passed the Energy Risk Professional (ERP) designation in 2014. He is also a lecturer in derivatives trading and market risk management.
Dmitry speaks fluent English, French and Russian
Dmitri is passionate about the animal world and the nature in general (he has joined the fight for animal and nature protection and is supporting certain animal protection organizations).
When he is not travelling Dmitry enjoys cooking for his friends and guests.
