Gilberto started his international career in the Ministry of Finance in Mexico (in the Customs department), after 3 years, he was appointed Director, in charge of auditing all the imports and exports that cross all over the country; he later moved to another area of Mexican customs, and led meetings with more than 80 Chambers of Mexico to help them with international and custom issues and to improve the performance of their sector.
Later in 2007, since the USA signed a Free Trade Agreement with Central America, Gilberto worked as a Custom Consultant with the firm Chemonics International, based in Washington (USA), the consultancy was oriented to study specific Chapters of the FTA to be implemented, ensuring that the Central American customs procedures were aligned with the legal text. After each visit, some meetings were held at the U.S. Embassy of each country participating in the progress.
With a strong entrepreneurial mind and a passion for international trade, Gilberto decided to found a Company specialized in consultancy, assisting international Chambers mainly from USA, helping them to introduce their banned products into the country. Another area of the Company is seeking the best producers offshore, and then taking care of their logistics and imports and bringing all sorts of product into the country.
In 2015 Gilberto, was recognized by a specialized magazine in Mexico (Estrategia Aduanera), among the best consultants in foreign trade in Mexico.
Gilberto is also very academic, so he took up the challenge to embrace (a part time career) as Director and Professor of International Business at Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrrey.
In his academic career, Gilberto had the opportunity to study in the leading schools in Mexico and Latin America, such as the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Instituto Tecnológico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM) and the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México (UNAM), learning both in the private and public sector.
Gilberto holds two majors in International Business and Law, and hold a Master in International Law.
Gilberto is fluent in Spanish and English.
Gilberto got (during his university career) a scholarship for playing soccer, so his still plays regularly, he is a fanatic of sports and adventures, among other things, he has done the Base Camp of the Everest, has swom the Caynon of Sumidero in Chiapas Mexico, has cycled in the Alps, has participated in Triatlons, etc.
