Juan Carlos was born in Mexico City and is currently living in Montevideo, Uruguay. He is a commodities and business development expert with over 20 years experience in the sugar, molasses, fats and oils and biodiesel markets, with a key focus on Latin America.


He is currently providing consultancy services to Central American and US clients regarding investment projects in South America, particularly in Uruguay. 


Juan Carlos started his career as an operation manager with ED&F Man in Mexico City in charge of overseeing the entire molasses operation, a task that  involved sourcing from +35 different Mills on an EXW basis, exporting through 4 port facilities and 5 border crossings. He then moved to the US and  worked with Westway Trading Corporation as a Trader responsible for Central America. He was instrumental in transitioning the business unit acquisitions of competitors (molasses, fats, fish and exotic oil business units of Cargill, Tate&Lyle, Garner Smith and Safic Alcan).


From 2008 to 2014 he was deeply involved in the imports of raw sugar into the Venezuelan market, both private and government.


Prior to becoming an independant business consultant, Juan Carlos represented Inancor, the trade and execution desk of MAN Sugar for the South-America region based in Montevideo.
 


Juan Carlos has a management post graduate degree with ESADE, and holds an Honours degree in Industrial Engineering with Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM).
 

Juan Carlos is passionate about travelling and cinema. He also enjoys playing golf and tennis, but mostly spending time with his family.
