As a recent graduated civil engineer from Escola Politecnica atUniversidade de Sao Paulo (USP), Mauro was recruited by Banco Itau. to work with the “management by objectives” score system. His next professional assignment was with Pirelli, where he was trained as a system analyst.

His career in trading started as a trainee at Coinbra,as the Brazilian branch of Louis Dreyfus Commodities was known at the time. In Coinbra, on different moments he was responsible for the origination of soybeans and corn from farmers and cooperatives, for the distribution and selling of refined bottled soy oil in the domestic market and for the designing and adoption of some risk and positions controls. Then as Commercial Director, he was also involved in the building and acquisitions of crushing plants and grain warehouses, for streamlining the coffee trading operations in the group, the termination of cocoa export business from Brazil and commencement of sugar export business by Coinbra.

In 1998 Mauro moved to Buenos Aires, to work at Louis Dreyfus Argentina, where he was in charge of rice and cotton operations, which included a rented rice mill and a rented cotton gin.

Back to Brazil, he worked for Eximcoop, a trading company owned by Itochu and some Brazilian cooperatives.

He then worked for Maeda, a large Brazilian farming group, where he started cotton export operations.

His next assignment was as New Business Director at SAB Trading, where he structured the coffee division.

Subsequently, when Brazilian regulation was made compatible with agricultural bonds, he went to work at Hedging Griffo (later acquired by Credit Suisse), originating and structuring operations with these agricultural bonds.

Mauro also worked at Noble Group, in the sugarcane milling division, where he was in charge for sugar, ethanol and electricity operations, where he developed methodology for optimal mix of products (raw and crystal sugar, hydrous and anhydrous ethanol and electricity). He also made some decisions with long term impact under the regulatory environment of the electricity market, which is considerably complex in Brazil, and may significantly affect results (different taxations, subsidies, etc.).

Currently, Mauro is involved in advisory and consulting business in commodities and finance.

Mauro is a civil engineer, from Escola Politecnica of University of Sao Paulo.

He has a Specialization Course of Business Administration (MBA) from Administration School of Fundaçao Getulio Vargas.

He speaks Portuguese and English and understands Spanish.

Mauro likes sports , specially tennis and football ( soccer). He also likes science fictions books, physics and cosmology, and behavioral economics.
