Michel Kabanga
Michel started his professional career in 2006 within the logistics & supply chain division of a Congolese subsidiary company of a trading company named Nage Resources AG in Lubumbashi (Katanga province). He worked as Logistics Coordinator where he was in charge of checking the quality of the materials (copper blister and copper cathodes) before purchase, sampling manager, weighing manager, transport organizer, loading and escort organizer. Admin management (export license, packing list, export doc, invoices,…) and updating of trucks movement from DR Congo to RSA and Namibia Tsumeb ( tracking and tracing report) and maintenance planning of the assets of the company.
In January 2008, Michel joined Tenke Fungurume Mining Sarl an affiliate of Freeport McMoran Copper & Gold as a Logistics officer in charge of import duties, import licenses and pre-shipment inspection Bivac for the phase 1 & 2 of the Mining project with a control on:
- License, invoicing, exoneration list: preparation of exoneration list according to the DRC mining Code
Michel is an expert in administrative duties import.
This position implies the global supply chain process and procedure (end user – procurement – transport – warehousing - delivery)
Michel worked in administration and operation close to buyers, freight forwarders, transporters, customs and warehouse receivers.
On the import side, Michel had a new challenge with the export of copper and Cobalt when the production of copper and cobalt has started in March 2010. As the Logistics Foreman, his responsibilities would start from production all the way to the delivery to the nominated African port with all outcomes (loading schedule, shipping, monthly reporting, cost reporting, and achievement of target according to commercial department, SAP activities: data capture, inventory), including leading and animating his team and liasing with all of the contractors and officials allocated to logistics department.
In August 2011, Michel joined the Katanga Mining group (an affiliate of GlencoreXstrata in the Kamoto copper company (KCC) ) in Kolwezi town, the Lualaba Province, within the supply chain department as a Store Superintendent responsible for managing the Bulk materials and reagents. His main duties were:
Stock management (receiving and issuing)
Offloading trucks and warehousing
Inventory control ( stock reconciliation)
Stock and consumption reporting (daily, weekly, monthly and yearly)
Stock transaction using Sage ERP
Stock forecasting.
Michel worked in that area for 3 months and was then transferred to the Logistics import management in charge of the Bonded warehouse accounting for (on average) 10 million US dollars of goods.
Within Kamoto Copper Company, Michel was then promoted as On-site Logistics Manager in charge of the Logistics function especially the bond store and the Whole Ore Leaching project due to be completed in 2017.
Michel has grown to love logistics & supply chain; he finds it exciting and above all challenging… As far as worldwide business is concerned, logistics& supply chain speaks to him of vast opportunities going forward…
Michel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electromechanical engineering from Lubumbashi University / (FacultéPolytechnique de l’UNILU) and is about to enter a MBA in London in 2018.
Michel is fluent in French, English and Swahili.
Michel is passionate about sciences. He is fond of reading, traveling and cinema. He likes music and sports (especially basketball)
Michel spent much of his time within church activities (Pastoral visit, the young mentoring, etc)
