Ralph Chery
A seasoned energy professional, Ralph Chery has garnered over 15 years of experience in the sector through an array of different roles, the latest as an oil trader at Trafigura.
Ralph started his career as a project engineer for American conglomerate Honeywell, implementing control systems in various sites ranging from coal-fired power plants in Egypt to oil refineries in Western Canada. He was able to blend in teams composed of individuals from all over the world while managing client expectations, tight budgets and strict deadlines.
While undergoing his MBA studies in Europe, Ralph spent the summer at BNP Paribas in London, sitting on the Interest Rate and Foreign Exchange Derivatives structuring desk. Upon graduating, he joined the same bank in Montreal where he sold the same products to large institutional clients, namely pension funds, in the aftermath of Lehman Bros's collapse. He perfected his attention for details and understanding of macro-economic data while making sure procedures were followed and improved during his tenure.
Ralph returned to the energy sector when he accepted to join the Dusseldorf-based trading arm of E.ON, one of the largest utilities in the world as a commodity sales trader dealing primarily at European power and natural gas(physical/financial) and emission certificates (EUAs/CERs). After close to six years, Ralph left Germany and joined Trafigura's desk in Panama as a physical oil trader, trading and generating business linked to refined products (LPG, distillates, gasoline, fuel oil, bitumen), crude oil, ethanol, and LNG with counterparties located in Central America and the Caribbean. He is now currently an independant agent/consultant.
Ralph completed an Electrical Engineering bachelor's degree (BEng) from Concordia University in Montreal as well as a graduate diploma in management studies at McGill University. He is the holder of a bilingual master's degree in Business Administration(MBA) from IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain.
Ralph speaks fluently French, Spanish as well as English while currently improving his Portuguese language skills.
