Walter’s career journey began in the Humanitarian sector in 2004, working with World Food Program (WFP) as a Warehouse Assistant, and later Oxfam GB as a Logistics Officer based in Kitgum District, a remote town in war ravaged Northern Uganda during the massive humanitarian response. Almost 5 years later, in 2009, Walter moved to Karamoja, where he worked with a local NGO, Karamoja Agro-Pastoral Development Program (KADP) as a Procurement Officer. KADP was one of the NGOs working with the nomadic pastoralists and part of his assignment was to develop a comprehensive procurement and logistics system that he successfully handled. However, he cancelled his assignment in less than a year to pursue his Master’s degree. Soon after leaving KADP, Walter switched from the Humanitarian sector to the private sector, when he joined ESCO (U) Ltd as a Warehouse manager. ESCO (U) Ltd is a for-profit company that works with small-holder farmers, to enable them to achieve better levels of productivity and quality of crops for export on a long term sustainable basis. In his role at ESCO, he gained deeper insight in the commodities sector, handling products such a Vanilla, Red-eyed bird Chili, Cocoa, and papaya seed. As the Warehouse manager, his role enabled him to deal directly with farmers, putting him at the forefront of the commodities business. In 2013, Walter took yet another position of operations manager with Three Farmers Investments Limited (TFL). TFL is one of the leading Agricultural commodities trading company in Uganda dealing mainly in sourcing various commodities directly from farmers, processing and exporting to Asia and Europe with major crops such as cocoa, coffee, maize, chili and sesame and beans. This was a senior position that he held and was responsible for the management of production and warehouse team, R&D, Farmers training, developing commodities sourcing strategies and formulating policies for the company. This position increased his knowledge and experience in the commodity trade within Uganda, and the East Africa as a whole. At the end of 2015, Walter joined Export Trading Group as Procurement Manager, where he also doubled as Business Head in Uganda. Export trading group is one of the fastest growing company trading mainly in Agricultural products with its presence in 46 countries in Africa and over 80 countries across the globe. Since joining ETG, he has made a tremendous improvement in the way the company sources and manages the various products of the business such as coffee, maize, soya beans, maize, sesame, pigeon pea, green mug, beans and sorghum . He is a well-known person in the industry with vast knowledge in various commodities and as a commodity specialist, he is regularly contacted by food relief agencies like WFP, ICRC to provide updates on the commodities status to improve their planning for food needs. Besides the above, Walter is on the journey to fully engage in Agricultural commodity trade and he has established and registered a company called Agrihub. This company is focused on linking farmers with buyers, creating a platform for Agricultural trade and improving the value chain within Agricultural industry.
Walter holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Makerere University, a bachelor degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management from Makerere University and a diploma in Human Resources Management from Makerere University Business School. Walter holds numerous certificates such as Certificate in stores management and Material control, Fundamental of fleet management, Human Right base approach, Recruitment and selection. Walter is fluent in, English and Luo.
